AUVic Wins at Canadian Engineering Competition 2007
AUVic attended the 2007 Canadian Engineering Competition to compete in the innovative design category. The Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC) is an annual event attended by 150 engineering students from across Canada. CEC promotes communication, design, and ingenuity - encouraging students to develop their professional skills in a competitive environment. The event also fosters an important link between Canadian engineering students, industry, government and academia. Every year, four regional engineering competitions are held at major universities across Canada. All first and second place winners of the regional competitions are given a special invitation to attend CEC. It truly is a collaboration of Canadaian top prospects in the engineering field. This year the event took place in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on March 8-11.
Through our hard work and dedication to the project the quality and design of our vehicle stood out above all others. AUVic was able to walk away with the competitions two most prestigious awards; 1st place in Innovative Design and the special award for technical excellence. To my knowledge these awards have never been given to the same group before. As individuals who work on this project day and night it was exciting for us to not only see this start to pay off but perhaps more importantly the excitement it arouse throughout the entire competition.
After this win AUVic is very excited but is now moving our focus to the upcoming competitions. We will be competing at the MATE MTS ROV Competition in St. John's, Newfoundland in June and then the AUVSI and ONR underwater vehicle competition in San Diego, California in July. With the further advancement of our project we are ready and excited. Over the coming months we will be actively testing our vehicle to hone its capabilities for optimum performance. The team is optimistic and is continuing to push our own boundaries along with the capabilities of the industry. Thank you for all the support AUVic would not be where it is if it were not for all the contributions made.
